Ayurveda & Yoga - Sister Sciences

Updated: 6 days ago

We're excited to announce our next Ayurveda Workshop in the studio, hosted by Luisa Schreiber.

Tracing their origin back to the oldest Indian scriptures, the vedas, Ayurveda and Yoga are sister sciences.

Ayurveda reminds us that we are holistic beings and everything matters. Every change and adjustment we make to live our lives in the direction of sattva affects our state of health in a positive way.

Yoga, as a companion to Ayurveda, is important since Ayurveda looks at true health as a state of sattva in mind and body. This is what Yoga can bring when practiced with clear intentions toward sattva.

What to Expect

In this hands-on workshop we will see how Ayurveda and Yoga can complement each other.

We will look at a balance approach to asana, pranayama and relaxation which will help to stabilize all three doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

There is no experience required in either Ayurveda nor Yoga, bring your open mind and heart and enjoy the workshop.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a natural system of health and healing. Ayurveda literally means the “science of life,” and as part of the Vedas, its wisdom dates back over 5,000 years.

Ayurveda recognises the intelligent principle present in both the universe and the body. Health is the harmonious function of the whole individual. No system can work in isolation. Therefore, the goal is not to treat or suppress symptoms, but to restore balance by eliminating the cause of imbalance. When one is in a state of balance, the body, mind and spirit work together and there is a sense of well-being. When the root cause of imbalance is removed symptoms disappear.

Ayurvedic Practices for every day life

Ayurveda is a shashwat science, meaning it is unchanging. The basis of Ayurveda does not change because it is a natural and a complete science that works when applied consistently over time.

The concept that matter follows consciousness is at the basis of this approach. As is discussed in most spiritual traditions as well as Ayurveda, we create our external experience based on what and how we think.

The consciousness practices we ask of you in the light of Ayurveda are a foundation for understanding how:

  • life works

  • we heal from imbalance

  • we evolve and grow spiritually as human beings

Ayurveda brings the power back into the hands of the individual, inviting us to take responsibility for our health and wellbeing of the entire person including body, mind and spirit.

Optimal Utilisation and True Health

The Ayurvedic perspective looks at health as the optimal utilisation of the body and mind for the experience of life, or consciousness.

Signs of Health in Optimal Utilisation:

  • Clear, supple skin

  • Clear, bright eyes

  • Easy and regular elimination of urine, feces, sweat and tears

  • Even energy throughout the day, free from highs and lows

  • Calm and harmonious demeanour

  • Sound and restful sleep, awakening refreshed

About Luisa Schreiber:

My journey of Yoga began eight years ago. I was recovering from being very sick, after being diagnosed with Coeliac Disease where I am unable to eat gluten. Yoga helped me to bring awareness to my body, mind and emotions, and to be equanimous with everything I was going through.

My Yoga practice continues to be a way of gaining a better understanding of the relationship between thoughts and how they make us feel about ourselves, about others and about life in general. Yoga aligns movement with breath, bringing stillness to the mind and within us; helping us to live a life of respect, honesty, love and compassion.

Ayurveda came a bit later into my life as I started to understand and embrace a natural way of living. I can feel the benefits of practising Ayurveda to my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and wellbeing. I embody these practices and routines in my daily life as I “go with the flow”, and I want to share some with you here.

Luisa has also written a beautiful article on Botanistry website. Learn more about Luisa, and her daily routines with Ayurveda - you can check that out HERE.
