Meet Shanti Dasi
Updated: Aug 30, 2019
Shanti's personal journey with yoga started about 20 years ago. The first seed was planted by her experience of Sivinanda Yoga and soon led to a love of many styles of yoga.
Shanti completed her 200HR teacher training qualification with Ashram Yoga and that's where her core training has been thus far. She is currently on the path to completing her 300HR teaching training and couldn't be more excited!
Further training in the field of Yoga Nidra, Yin, Restorative and Kids Yoga have served to deepen her passion for yoga even more.
What is Shanti's teaching style like?
It is a unique blend of traditional and classic Hatha yoga with more modern Vinyasa, Yin and Restorative. She maintains a focus on breath throughout the practice and aims to keep an element of mindfulness and relaxation in each class. In the future, Shanti wants to focus on introducing students to the more energetic aspects of Yoga.
Where did the name 'Shanti Dasi' come from?
People often ask if her name is actual 'Shanti Dasi', so here's the scoop; The name 'Shanti Dasi', which means "server of peace", was given to her by Swami Shantimurti of Ashram Yoga. This is the name she uses when teaching yoga as it has such a special resonance for her. Shanti's birth name is Samantha McKenzie (which we think is equally beautiful as Shanti Dasi). So, if you see her walking the streets around Hobsonville Point, feel free to call her Sam!
Shanti is leading our up-coming Foundations of Flow at Kanuka, starting on Tuesday 27th August.
