PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The School of Modern Meditation 200hr Yoga Teacher Training has been carefully created and designed to teach yoga as a complete mind, body, soul practice. The program can be done online or in-person at SOMM's city studio.
With an ancient lineage that transcends time; modern science and psychology are now catching up with this practice and its irrefutable benefits.. This training beautifully covers the physical side of yogic practice and also offers yoga as a powerful mind-body modality with just as much emphasis on yoga off the mat, as a philosophy, life-tool and way of living in the world. It also dives into yoga as a self-therapeutic, trauma informed tool that can be a transformative vehicle for healing and self-acceptance.
We explore the history and philosophies that underpin yoga, making ancient wisdom both accessible and relevant in a modern context. The physical aspect of the practice is taught with nuance and depth, integrating a solid understanding of anatomy and physiology. Trainees will learn how the body moves, breathes, and responds structurally, energetically and somatically. This module bridges traditional teachings with contemporary science, empowering you to teach in a way that is safe, intelligent, and deeply embodied.
A substantial difference in this training is the meditative element. Many modern yoga teacher training programs overlook meditation or include it as a side-dish, yet meditation is a core limb of yoga. In fact, yoga and meditation are in many ways synonymous. Too often, meditation is treated like a garnish, sprinkled on the side of yoga training, rather than honoured as the heart of the path. True yoga doesn’t stop at movement. It moves inward, and this inner exploration also moves outwards, into the world. In this training you'll learn what meditation actually is, how to develop your own sustainable meditation practice, explore different styles of meditation, and gain the confidence to guide others with clarity and integrity.
This four module program is facilitated by three teachers who have lived and breathed the practice for decades, and who are all studio owners themselves, this training is comprehensive, experiential but most of all practical and accessible.
Whether you are new to yoga, wish to deepen an existing practice or wish to learn how to share your love of the practice as a teacher, this course may change your life.
Underpinning this training is The Light Heart Path, a non-dogmatic compass: reminding students to stay soft, curious, and authentic.
Each module can be done separately, or to certify as a SOMM 200hr Yoga Teacher all four must be completed. The program can be done online or in-person. If the course times do not work there is also the option to do the course via the recording so long as the students keep up with recordings and assessment.
Certification:
MAI 200hour

Practice Hours:
Students are expected to have their own daily practice and attend at least 1 - 2 group yoga sessions daily at a studio in their neighbourhood.

Throughout the training, each trainee will be placed into a small group and paired with one of the lead teachers as a mentor.
